JSG Awards 2008

Ah...the second HK annual music award ceremony that I do care...Still didn't watch it yet but just scanning the results, I find them a bit odd but acceptable. However, my reaction to some of the winners is "what the...?!" ~~ Apparently, there are some embarrassing moments this year too...err...

Playlist of early January

- 黑白 - Khalil Fong => Okay, I don't have to mention anymore how much I adore this guy...

- 不潮不用花錢 - JJ Lin => Upbeat song that reminds of me of some American songs that I cant name. Anyway, I like it.

- 西太后 - Eric Suen => I usually like chink-out type of music and I've never heard Eric sing this type of song so I'm a bit surprised.

**
- Just saw the very badly edited/cut version of Chik Chak from TVB. I wanted to write how furious I was regarding those cuts but I managed to find [hopefully] the uncut version; so I'll see.

- No matter how many times I watch this clip, I'm still touched. Touched by their friendship, touched by CR's support for him, touched that he's finally getting his long due recognition...All the best for 2009! :)

***
- Oh wow, tomorrow is the JSG Awards too...I expect to see Raymond Lam, Linda Chung, Bosco Wong, Myolie Wu and Wong Cho Lam getting a little something...wanna bet?

Chik Chak 903 Awards

Happy New Year!!!

OMG....AH....I want to scream and cry for good!!! What a surprise when I wake up and check the results...

I'm listening back the show via 903 now and I'll write more when I watch the TVB version...I'm so happy happy for Soulboy, you deserve all the awards you get this year. Sigh...I already see him being stabbed (bashed) by angered fans in forums...ah whatever!

Winners of 19th Golden Melody Awards

I’m been anticipating this award show for some time because Jay, Khalil and Gary are nominated. Because of this award show, I refused my mom’s offer for a 2 days shopping tour to Toronto and I even had this insane thought of skipping work to watch it live (which I didn’t off course :s)! I saw the partial winner list this morning before heading to work. I know that Jay grabbed some awards but the Best Male Singer Award wasn’t announced yet so that was all I was thinking during work. I didn’t get the chance to watch the award ceremony yet however, I’m glad that Jay is the big winner BUT he wasn’t there to accept the awards…boo! I’m also happy that Gary won Best Male Singer Award but I’ll be happier if Khalil won…better chance next year! Here’s the partial winner list:

Additional thoughts:
Music is subjective so some will like this list and some will not. I think it’s a well balanced list between mainstream and non-mainstream. For me, this year should be interesting because three of my favs: Jay, Khalil and Gary are nominated here and there and in some categories, they are against each other…ouch, I’m torn! I’ll be watching this award show on July 5 with my popcorns ready…hehe!

A few surprises:
1) The judges really like Jay and Sodagreen this year, it’s not anything bad though
2) Lee Hom is completely shut off this year and to a certain extent A-Yue too, who was highly regarded as a hot favorite this year
3) I was worried that Khalil will not get nominated at all and I’m so relieved to see him in the list but I’m a bit disappointed that he’s not in the composer, arranger and producer category.

JSG Awards 2007

I’m really lagging behind for talking about this laughable show now. Anyway, that’s all I have to say about this award show:

- there are obvious cuts in the official DVD release for rentals, what the hell?
- TVB spirit of ‘no attendance = no awards’
- it’s basically a Harlem Yu show more than anything
- inconsistent live performances from some singers
- unconvincing results, meaning wrong people winning wrong awards (that happens every year so yeah whatever…)
- the atmosphere and the bonding between the singers is actually something pleasant to watch this year. These kinds of interaction only happen in Chik Chak 903 awards
- Conclusion: it’s not as entertaining as previous years!

Chik Chak 903 Awards 2007

Happy New Year! Today, it’s the annual 叱吒樂壇流行榜頒獎典禮 as well…
Hehe…it’s proven that I’m a maniac…I really woke up at 7am on New Year Day to listen the award show live from the radio station. I’m that motivated just because I think Chik Chak is always a jaw-dropping award ceremony with surprising and unexpected winner list and it’s the most high and emotional when it comes to atmosphere. Now, I'll have to wait for the TVB edit version of the award show...hope that they won't cut a lot...

Chik Chak Top 10 Songs (in order of accumulated airplay):
1. 酷愛 - 張敬軒
2. Crying In The Party - 陳奕迅

Bronze: 張敬軒

Chik Chak My favorite Group Award: 農夫
Chik Chak My favorite Male Singer: 陳奕迅
Chik Chak My favorite Female Singer: 楊千嬅
Chik Chak My Favorite Song Award: 酷愛 - 張敬軒

My comments: See, I told you that the results can be surprising and unexpected. Eason being the big winner is expected but Hins winning that many is a big surprise! I'm very delighted with Fama sweeping all the group awards...at least, it's not always Twins! Just hearing what Louis Cheung and Kay Tse said make me have teary eyes and I hope that TVB won't cut those parts...

*** Meanwhile, I want to recall a precious performance by 四強唱作人 from last year’s Chik Chak Awards. Long live the friendship!

TVB 40th Anniversary Awards

Although I don’t watch TVB series that often now, however I will watch the annual award show. I’m not going to talk about the winners or if they deserve or not since I didn’t watch much this year and it’s expected to see Heart of Greed sweep the major awards anyway. I just want to talk about the show itself. Before, TVB anniversary celebration had their artists performing and stuff with the awards in one show and it was actually more entertaining and more “alive”. Now with the award show on its own, it’s really boring and the atmosphere is “dead” as everyone looked bored and unattached. This year as usual, it’s messy, it’s rushed (the presenters didn’t have time to finish what they want to say and the winners were rushed to finish their speeches). Bah...

Congratulations to all winners!

The most touching moment of the show...

Metro Radio Guo Yu Li Awards 2007

Haha...I'm like a month behind for mentioning about this show. Since I had nothing to watch, I caught the 2007 新城國語力頒獎禮 airing on Fairchild last night. The show suffered a lot of cuts from Fairchild; I was so worried that they’ll cut out the performances of my favs. I was basically watching the show for the sake of Andy Lau, Gary Chaw, Khalil Fong and JJ Lin. To my relief, I saw them perform at least one song on stage. Although not a very representative award show since Metro Radio is known to be a “pork dividing” station when it comes to awards but if they don’t split the awards that way, I think the chance is slim to see them together in another award show. Well, there’s still the upcoming 第七屆全球華語歌曲排行榜頒獎典禮 from RTHK…

26th Hong Kong Film Awards

Yup, I woke up at 8:30am just to hear the Hong Kong Film Awards show live through RTHK (I thought it was live but actually it isn't). Some resting hours sacrificed (from someone who’s still sick), but it’s okay for that annual ceremony. I didn’t see all the nominated films but congratulations to all winners! Hmmm...I'm so unpro when it comes to the names of the people working behind the scene.

Tony Leung and Carina Lau presenting this award together…what a gimmick!

I’m very happy that the singers for the nominated songs were present to sing on stage but did Rene Liu perform as well? Anita Yuen’s speech about fans was good and right, hope that Andy Lau feels better now!
